On Saturday, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, revealed the establishment of a new political entity named the 'American Party,' aimed at restoring freedom to U.S. citizens. This announcement comes in the wake of his ongoing disputes with President Donald Trump. Musk expressed his discontent with the current political landscape, stating, 'we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.'
Public Support for a New Political Party
This initiative follows a poll conducted by Musk on the social media platform X, where 65% of respondents supported the idea of him forming a new party. He stated, 'By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it! When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the American Party is formed to give you back your freedom.'
Background of the Political Dispute
Musk's call for a new party emerged following a significant fallout between Trump and his former advisor regarding the 'Big Beautiful Bill,' which Musk had openly criticized. This bill was recently passed by Congress and signed by Trump on July 4, marking a notable legislative achievement.
Musk's Critique of Trump's Policies
Since leaving the White House, Musk has been critical of Trump's policy initiatives, particularly their potential effects on the national deficit. He has expressed his intention to support Republican challengers who oppose Trump's legislation and has voiced his backing for Representative Thomas Massie, a prominent critic of the bill. Despite announcing the formation of his party, Musk has yet to provide a detailed plan for its future.
